Meet the Team: Diana Won
Meet Diana: our Graphic Designer + lead in Art Direction based in Los Angeles.
She’s a lover of nail art and is never not seen wearing a fab pair of earrings. GET TO KNOW Diana!
WHAT IS YOUR ROLE HERE AT INGRID & ISABEL?
My official title is Graphic Designer. I help create all marketing print collateral and web assets that you see on our website. Additionally, I art direct and produce all of our many photoshoots for all of the product and editorial images you see online.
LET’S DO AN ICE BREAKER! WHAT’S YOUR GUILTY PLEASURE TV SHOW?
The Office. Although it’s not as much of a ”guilty pleasure” show as other shows can be. However, I have re-watched the entire series at least 10 times, and I’m pretty sure I will continue doing so until the end of time. That makes it pretty guilt-ridden, right?
WHAT ARE SOME THINGS AS A GRAPHIC DESIGNER THAT YOU THINK ABOUT EVERYDAY?
My job is to visually communicate to our customer. So every day I think about how my designs or photographs are going to 1. Grab our customer’s attention (in a good way), 2. Inform her about how awesome our clothes are (because they truly are), and 3. Delight her (because nothing is more delightful than seeing pretty, well designed things). I also think about keeping our brand cohesive, which can get tricky when your company and brand is growing and evolving.
ANY FAVORITE MOMENTS SINCE WORKING AT INGRID & ISABEL?
My favorite project was definitely our #AMotherIs Campaign. We flew 6 real mamas from all over the country to San Francisco, gave them makeovers, and then did a photo and video campaign with all of them. I created the branding of the campaign and also directed the photoshoot. It was magical. Although I love working with professional models, there was something really special about working with this group of women. It’s hard to be in front of a camera if you’re not used to it! But they allowed us to zoom in, not just into their faces, but also their personal lives and HEARTS (so corny, but true!). They answered personal (and often emotional) questions about motherhood, and it was truly an honor to work with them. Also, they were all SO FLY and their photos turned out UH-MAZING.
WHERE DO YOU SEE THE FASHION INDUSTRY HEADING IN THE NEXT 10 YEARS?
OMG. Not really sure how to answer this. Can I just give a general and obvious answer and say that it’s going to get REAL TECHY? Everything from designing, manufacturing, distributing, to consuming. Whether it’s for the best or for the not-so-best, it’s going to be all technology, all the time. I’m picturing the scene in Clueless where Cher is planning out her outfit on her computer … only 100x CRAZIER.
WHERE DO YOU THINK THE DIRECTION OF ART & DESIGN ARE HEADED IN 2019?
Minimalist design and muted color palettes have been popular for a while now, and for good reason. However, I think in this upcoming year, people will be stepping away from that minimalist aesthetic and adding MORE. More vibrancy in color, more colors in general, more fun fonts (as opposed to the simple sans-serifs that we all know and love), more decorative elements and illustrations, more In-Your-Face designs bleeding off the page in more open compositions.
AS AN ARTIST, WHO ARE YOU INSPIRED BY?
There are so many artists that inspire me. I’m such a Pisces in that way. But honestly, there’s only one person that I receive inspiration from EVERY . SINGLE . DAY. and that person’s name is (let’s say it all together now)… Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter. As a visual artist, a mother, a music lover (/hoarder), and a WOMAN, I am constantly asking myself “WWBD (What would Bey do)?” and that usually leads me down the right path. She’s an artist in everything she does from all that is music related to fashion to her activism and the way she utilizes her voice and power to help strengthen others … AAAACK. I JUST LOVE HER SO MUCH. WE ARE SO LUCKY TO HAVE HER.
AS A MOTHER, WHAT'S A PRODUCT/ITEM/SOLUTION/LIFE-HACK YOU WISH YOU GOT AHOLD OF DURING YOUR PREGNANCY?
I honestly can’t think of any particular thing that I WISH I had during my pregnancy. I was so #blessed with support from my friends who were also new moms. And I was also working for Ingrid & Isabel at the time, so I was able to get all of the maternity clothes that I needed (Yay I&I!). I will say, though, that my pregnancy pillow was one of my favorite pregnancy purchases. I still use it sometimes, even though I’m definitely NOT pregnant, when I feel like being spooned by a pillow.
WHAT'S A HIDDEN TALENT NO ONE REALLY KNOWS ABOUT?
I can sing karaoke for an infinite amount of time. I’m not talking about American karaoke where you’re in front of everyone. I’m talking about Korean karaoke, where you get a private room for you and your girlfriends and belt out ballads that span all of the decades. It doesn’t sound good, because that’s not the part in which I’m talented. My talent is in the duration of time spent singing. Foreeevveeer.
WHAT'S YOUR MOTTO OR PERSONAL MANTRA?
You mean, aside from “What would Beyoncé do?”? Probably something along the lines of “GET OUT OF YOUR OWN HEAD. YOU ARE A BAD-ASS.”
Also, my girlfriends (most of which are also newish mothers) often yell out loud “WE DOIN’ IT!” to celebrate the fact that we are newish mothers and still manage to do (some) fun/cool things. Every little thing is an accomplishment when you’re a new mom. EVERYTHING.
